Last week, seven of the nine Seattle City Council members pledged to meet community demands to defund SPD by 50%, to reinvest that money in community-led health and safety programs, and to call for the release of protesters.
But our work isn’t done yet! We need to make sure these council members know we support their pledge and that they should take immediate action.
Action 1 (Districts 1, 2, 3, 6, 7):
Send a brief thank you note for committing to defund SPD to your councilmember if you live in District 1, 2, 3, 6, or 7 (i.e., you’re represented by Lisa Herbold, Tammy Morales, Kshama Sawant, Dan Strauss, or Andrew Lewis). Click here to use our tools here. We’ll also include a thank you to your at-large councilmembers Lorena Gonzalez and Teresa Mosqueda.
Action 2 (Districts 4 & 5)
If you live in District 4, or 5 (you’re represented by Alex Pedersen or Debra Juarez): your councilmember still has not pledged to meet community demands, despite overwhelming support for these actions across their districts. Click here to use our tools to send them an email and ask them to defend black lives and defund SPD!
